That is a good question, and I'm going to poke Arrow to respond too because he always gets more out of the message boards than I do. (I prefer LJ/DW, just for the threaded comments and the fact that I can successfully get email notifications for replies. I can never quite get the hang of it for boards.)

Ranger Zone and Henshin Justice Unlimited, while good boards with some healthy discussion, aren't specifically PR boards, I find. They're Toku/Sentai boards first, though you could find some free-floating PR discussion in HJU, Ranger Zone tends to keep confined to specific threads.

Funaroboard and PRU are good boards if you don't have a lot of time to be online. They're both very low traffic for discussions, with the same few threads staying at the top of the page for several weeks. Funaroboard tends more towards snark and a willingness to focus on what annoys people about a character/episode/season (most of the regulars have been in fandom for a very long time). PRU, I find, is more of a fanfic/fanart board. There's more focus in the sections where fans produce works, like fic or vids or art (I also notice a lot of newer and/or younger fans on PRU, and some who are more well known on sites like fanfiction.net than on the various boards or the LJ comms.)

I don't have a good sense of PMC, because Arrow's been collecting most of the threads around the time PMC started. (We tend to split up the job of each Report nowadays.)

Rangerboard and SPRC are good discussion boards, but pretty high traffic. Rangerboard's been around the longest (as far as I know), but there's a good flow of new and old fans going through there. SPRC is newer, but seems to be taking after RB. I find a lot of interesting topics on both boards, which can sometimes slow my compiling because I stop to read them all the way through. I do see some repetition between the two boards, at least in terms of initial topics posted by members who are on both boards, but there's usually some good variation in responses. I do find that SPRC produces more 'list' posts, where responses to things like favourite Rangers are just lists of characters and no real discussion as to why. Meanwhile, RB doesn't filter out shows into certain sections, so all Toku, Ranger, other Media discussion goes into one section, which can be more difficult to sift through if you're just there for PR.

I suggest lurking in the main open discussion areas of all the boards for a while first, to get a good sense of the traffic, topics and overall board atmospheres. They all have their "best board" points, it's just a matter of what best fits you best. :)

No, seriously. I really have nothing to add, other than a breakdown of the PMC forums since Angel was unfamiliar with those. They're sort of an interesting mix of RB/SPRC and FB/PRU, in that they've got a large group of both newbies and veterans, and are low traffic with discussions lasting for weeks but have a meat to their topics that remind me of SPRC.

The one major difference the PMC forums have is that the vets mostly seem to be the type you may not find in ff.net or the LJ comms at all, though some do have LJ's. They're primarily vets in the sense that they were involved in the Power Rangers fandom before all that existed, people who came up back with PR on the net in the mid-90's, when newsgroups and personally-owned fic archives were all there was to find.

Also basically doesn't it just come down to different strokes for different folks? It just depends on where your friends are and where you feel the most comfortable with.

Thanks for all the input! =) It's been really helpful so far. Since I'm looking for people to answer questions I have about canon (i.e. did the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers always need Alpha to teleport them, or could they ever teleport themselves?), I'll check out Rangerboard and possibly SPRC. Again, thank you so much! =D
